EXLEY MOUNT (KEIGHLEY) - STREET NAME PLATE DESIGN
V.Ryan © 2015

When updating a street sign to a pictorial version, consider the ‘name’ and what it means / reflects. For example, Exley Mount is a relatively steep road. The road was built on hilly farm land in the 1930s. Each house has a garden to the front and back and most are well kept, with a stock of flowers, most evident in spring and summer. Until the mid 1970s, an orchard of apple trees existed behind some of the houses on the street. These facts should be reflected in the final design.

NEW PICTORIAL DESIGN

The printing / letters absorb the sun’s energy during the daytime and the sign slowly emits its energy as light, which can be seen at night.

RESEARCH - Researching a street first is essential. Part of this should be photographing the street, houses and gardens, as this will build an image of the street and help you to design a relevant sign / plate.
