MAKING A WIND POWERED MODEL

V. Ryan © 2005 - 2009

A small wind powered device can be manufactured in a school workshop quite easily. The device can be used to demonstrate the potential power provided by the wind and also to demonstrate mechanisms such as cranks. An example is shown below. As the propeller spins the characters head moves side to side, through the motion of the crank mechanism.

STAGES OF MANUFACTURING THE DEVICE

The stages below are set out as a 'sequence drawing'. All the stages are in order although you may wish to alter the basic design, in particular, the design of the moving part. You may prefer to design a cartoon character that moves from side to side. Consider a different type of mechanism in order to produce a alternative movement. (Click here for alternative design).
