RING TOOL |
|
An unusual looking lathe tool called a ‘ring tool’ is used to turn internal corners, that are difficult to cut with a full round scraper.
STANDARD PARTING TOOL | |
Parting tools are used to cut almost all the way through the turned wood, before it is removed from the lathe (see diagram below).
FLUTED PARTING TOOL | |
A fluted parting tool has two sharp edges that cut two sharp lines before the cutting edge of the tool makes contact with the spinning wood, giving a more precise cut and a better finish.
The small spindle left
by the parting tool is cut away with a tenon saw. A bench hook is used to
hold the wood whilst it is being cut to size. A sharp bevel edged chisel is finally used to remove any waste wood, left after sawing. |
