WRITING STYLES AND EMERGENCY SYMBOLS - 1

Mobile phones are normally presented to the buyer in a carefully designed and illustrated package. A clear title is usually prominent on the package. As you are designing packaging based on the theme mobile phones /emergency situations, you may find the following exercise helpful. Look carefully at the styles of font/writing used to present the word ‘emergency’ and ‘phone’ written below. The styles used on the left hand side are basic and have no feel, emotion or imagination attached to them. However, the styles of font/writing on the right hand side have been developed give a certain feel to the real meaning of the words.

 
   

The word ‘emergency’ has been presented to emphasise its real meaning. Emergency is written in red so that it stands out and is eye catching. The phones drawn on either side have been drawn to ensure that people know that the sign / logo is for an emergency mobile phone.

The word ‘emergency’ has been made more prominent and its meaning stressed by the inclusion of graphics. The heart rate symbols and the runner have been added as they suggest that the emergency needs fast action. The overall symbol is eye-catching.
However, there is no image / symbol or even word to suggest that this is for an emergency mobile phone.

 

The symbol below has been altered to and a phone added to ensure that anyone looking at the symbol knows it means ‘emergency phone’. What do you think?
