1a. Why is steel a suitable material for this purpose?

 
 
 

 

1b. A plan view of the steel serrated edge of the cutter is shown opposite. The cutter can be made in a school workshop. With the aid of diagrams and notes, describe how the serrated edge can be made. Use the space below.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

1c. It has been found that the serrated edge becomes blunt after limited use. Experts has suggested that the entire cutter needs ‘hardening’.

 

(i) Name a suitable process that will make the cutter tougher and harder, keeping its sharp edge for a longer time.

1d. Describe two ways in which the cutter may be a safety hazard, especially if the dispenser is to be used by young children.
