Subject: Technology Class: Year 7
Topic: Introduction to EVALUATING Time:
Context: Evaluating an electronic product
Learning Objectives: The pupils will learn to evaluate their project. In terms of quality, fitness for purpose, colour scheme, materials, aesthetics. They will begin to produce a table of results, a pictogram and a spreadsheet.
Resources: Completed electronic solution.

Computer system

DTP software

Drawing / writing equipment.

Activities:  

The pupils will be introduced to evaluating their electronic products.

They will be asked to list how they intend to mark each product. They will be given a list of possible headings and asked to arrange them in order of importance - in groups of 5/6.

The lists will be discussed with the class.

They will produce a ‘rough’ version of a mark sheet, with an agreed set of headings. They will mark each others work - individually.

The class will be shown how to set out their marks in the form of a table and pictogram.

A small number of pupils will start producing the table using DTP.

 

Differentiation:

 

Differentiation based on outcome. More capable pupils will be able to produce accurate tables with enhanced graphics.

Pupils who normally struggle with accurate drawing will be given the first opportunity to use DTP software.

 

Contribution to Core Skills:

 

Use of ICT in production of a table.

Literacy - careful discussion of headings

Numeracy - total marks and average marks will be calculated

Homework:

 

The pupils will complete the table of results and pictogram at home. As an extension they can produce another table based on the marks given by people at home.
