RESOURCES

Stage One: The pupils will be shown how to draw a border and title block to the correct measurements.

The use of a rich picture will be discussed with the class. The main theme ‘thermometer’ will be written in the centre of the board and associated words place around it. Pupils will contribute the associated words.

The overall presentation, use of colour and pictures will be emphasised.

HWK. Complete the rich picture.
Complete a coversheet for the thermometer project. ICT access.
Drawing and writing equipment.
Sample rich pictures.
Stage Two: pupils introduced to the design brief and specification.

The nature of a design brief will be discussed and the pupils will write a rough version.

The nature of a specification will be discussed and the pupils will produce a rough version.

The pupils will be shown how the brief and specification can be presented. Examples discussed.
ICT. Pupils investigate printing styles.

Collect pictures of thermometers from the internet / catalogues. ICT access.
Drawing and writing equipment.
Sample design briefs and specifications.
Stage Three: Pupils will research thermometers on the internet. Smart materials will be discussed and explained.

The pictures and text collected will be printed out and arrange in a graphical manner on a design sheet.

Pupils will be shown a number of example layouts. Emphasis will be placed on using pictures with associated text.
N. Divide the design sheet according to the number of pictures and text.
