Design Specification. 1. Write three design requirements / needs for seating for adults and young children. Explain each of your answers. An example has been completed for you. Requirement: The seating must be suitable for both adults and young children. Explanation: Adults and children can sit together, for example a mother / father and child .

SAMPLE DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

1. Requirement: The seating system should be safe for both adults and children. Explanation: The seating must be safe for a young child, so that he/she cannot be injured when sitting down or getting up from th seat. 2. Requirement: The materials should be environmentally friendly (sustainable). Explanation: The materials used should be natural or recyclable, so that when the seat comes to the end of it’s life cycle, it is recycled and not ‘dumped’ in a landfill. 3. Requirement: The seating should be stable so that it does not topple over, even when being climbed on or pushed around. Explanation: Children are likely to climb on to the seating and to play on it. Therefore, it should not be possible for it to ‘tip’ over.
