ENLARGEMENT AND REDUCTION

V. Ryan © 2006

Stamps are difficult to design and illustrate as they are small. Designers usually draw the stamp at a larger scale and then reduce it in size. This makes the process of designing much easier. The examples below show how a vanishing point is used to scale down the original design. Guidelines are used to help position small detail accurately.

This example is incomplete. Add detail, colour and shade to the original stamp design and then scale down the design to the actual size. The more detail you add the more difficult it becomes.
