Carefully select a ‘blank’. The blank should be wide enough to provide a body and a lid. |

A band saw is used to cut the lid from the body. |
Technically the body and lid are both blanks and they are prepared for turning in the same way as any single blank. | |

Diagonal lines are drawn on the surface of the blank, in order to find its centre. |

A circle is drawn, with its centre the crossing diagonal lines. |

A bandsaw is then used to remove the waste material and the circular blank is ready for the lathe. |
