1. Name a suitable plastic for the manufacture of the dish.

2. List four properties / qualities of the plastic you have named.
 
A. PROPERTY / QUALITY 1:
Polythene is manufactured in a range of colours.
 
B. PROPERTY / QUALITY 2:
Polythene is manufactured in a range of thicknesses.
 

C. PROPERTY / QUALITY 3:

Polythene can be formed under heat and pressure.
 
D. PROPERTY / QUALITY 4:
Polythene is resistant to corrosion.
   
 
 

3. In the four spaces below draw a diagram to represent the manufacture of the plastic dish. Underneath each diagram add explanatory notes.

NOTES:  The former (mould) is placed inside the vacuum forming machine and lowered.

 

NOTES:  A polythene sheet is placed above the former and the heater is turned on.

STAGE THREE

  STAGE FOUR

NOTES: The polythene warms up and becomes flexible.

 

NOTES: The former is moved upwards and the air removed from below. Atmospheric pressure presses the polythene on to the mould
