Graphic designers are often asked to produce a range of drawings of the same object - drawn to scale. The technique below explains how this can be achieved.
1. Select the image to
the be scaled - this may be drawn by hand or produced on computer
software. 2. Draw a grid around the image. The grid is normally composed of squares. Sometimes the grid is labelled with numbers or letters. |
|
3. The enlarged scale is then drawn, including the grid coordinates. The image is then drawn inside the grid, carefully ensuring that it is in proportion with the original.
4. Colour and shade is then added accurately. Computer software can be used to produce accurate drawings that can be scaled very easily. However, scaling by hand drawing is a graphic designers skill, difficult to master.
