When magnified, an abrafile blade looks like a very slender file. They are supplied in different sizes and grades and are designed for use in a junior or full sized hacksaw. The blade fits into the frame, in exactly the same way as an junior hacksaw blade / full sized hacksaw blade and is tensioned in the usual way. It is ideal for cutting curves and detailed shapes. Abrafiles are sometimes called saw files of tension file. |
When cutting a shape within the area of the material, drill a small hole first. Fit the abrafile through the hole. Then tension the blade in the frame of the junior hacksaw, in the same way a hacksaw blade is tensioned. |
Secure the material in a vice, keeping the work as low as possible. Slowly and carefully follow the line / curve marked on the material. |
When filing soft materials such as aluminium, protect the surfaces from damage by the vice jaws by using jaw protectors. Also, consider using card on either side of the material, as further protection. |
Fitting an abrafile to a full size hacksaw frame requires two clips. These hold the ends of the abrafile, tensioning the blade. |
