Dry Powder Coating was invented in the USA and it is now extremely popular, as a cost effective finish to metals. This type of coating, offers surface protection combined with a decorative appeal, due to the vast range of colours that are available. Further to this, in many cases a dry powder coating improves the functionality of the product.

Dry Powder coatings are composed of two main ingredients, a resin and a pigment (colour), that are allowed to combine and cure, producing a tough, durable, functional and decorative finish. The process begins with the resin, pigment and additives that promote curing (chemical change to aid the drying process), being ground and mixed into a very fine powder. The particles are then electrostatically charged, in order that they are attracted to the product being sprayed, which is grounded. The entire process is called Electrostatic, Spray Deposition (ESD). This process takes place in a dust free environment.

Powder coating is a specialist process and is carried out by trained operators. It is applied in a well ventilated area, by skilled technicians wearing appropriate protective clothing, with goggles and breathing masks.
