JEWELLERS STEEL TRIBLET |
V.Ryan © 2021 |
A polished steel triblet, is used to form curves and even rings. Some jewellers make a tapered steel rod, polish it and use in the same way as a triblet. Jewellers sometimes make a series of different diameter polished, tapered steel rods. These are as effective as commercially manufactured triblets. |
HOW TO USE A TRIBLET |
The jeweller places the triblet against his chest and leans forward a little, applying pressure to it. The tapered end rests in a hole in the bench or in this case, a hole in a block. This means that the jewellers hands are free, allowing him to rotate the ‘ring’ he is making and applying accurate ‘blows’ to the metal, with a hide mallet. This stretches the ring slowly, as it progresses up the triblet, until it is formed to the correct diameter. |
