DATA's pro/DESKTOP Initiative® - CAD/CAM

I was really pleased to attend a DATA supported course on pro/DESKTOP®. Never has there been so much encouragement to learn a professional piece of Computer Aided Design software and use it in schools. Even though my school does not have a CAM machine to output the designs my pupils are captivated by the possibilities that the software offers.

The course I attended took attendees through the software, which at first, is difficult to master. However, once the basics are mastered the possibilities are endless. I have enjoyed designing mobile phones, mp3 players and even simple objects such as pencil sharpeners.

It must be wonderful for schools with CAM machines. I can only imagine pupils designing and then making three dimensional designs. Many schools in the UK are know equipped with machines capable of manufacturing three dimensional designs.

Those attending the courses gain a multiple user licence for the software which allows this professional software to be placed on school computer networks. My understanding is that the software can also be given to pupils so that they can develop their skills at home.

Great to see DATA promoting successful software like this.
