Promotional packaging should be fun, exiting and colourful. However, it should also be environmentally friendly. This can be achieved by ensuring that it is recyclable or compostable. If the package contains seeds, a compostable container may be helpful in providing ‘food’ for the seeds, in the early stages of growth.
Children have been educated to be interested in the environment. Encouraging children to grow their own food from seeds, will also involve an understanding of sustainability and conservation. This could be achieved through educating in gardening and planing seeds, which could lead to an interest in horticulture. Horticulture is the study of agriculture, including scientific techniques, equipment and tools and even business awareness, associated with growing plants.
Advertising can play an important role in promoting health and environmental issues. This can be achieved in several ways, including associating personal health with a product. Celebrity endorsement is also another way of encouraging children to have an interest in their own health or the environment. School projects are another way of influencing the interest of children.
Having a positive influence on the life style choices of children, is the role of parents, schools and society. This ranges from encouraging children to eat healthy food, to encouraging all of us to exercise and to keep active.
Growing your own food is not only a healthy activity because it involves exercise, but it also promotes an understanding of the environment, conservation and sustainability.
Associating healthy eating with an existing product involves careful thought. For instance, associating healthy eating with a food product, that has a high percentage of sugar, may not be a good idea.
What existing product do you know, that would be suitable for promoting a healthy eating / environmental initiative?
