A kettle is a simple product, used in every household. Its primary function is to boil water, when making tea/coffee or for heating water for washing up etc.....

However, like many products, the simple kettle has developed into a varied range of designs and styles. They are aimed at a wide range of potential customers. Many customers do not buy a kettle just to boil water, they also want it to be stylish and attractive or interesting to look at. Often a customer will buy a kettle to fit in with the colour scheme of their kitchen or the type of materials used to construct the units. A customer may buy a kettle that is similar in style, to the rest of their kitchenware. Kettles, like many kitchen utensils, have developed into stylish and fashionable items.

Two styles / types of kettle are seen below. Study them carefully and read the information below each one.

BASIC INFORMATION:
This a basic, cordless kettle, a budget priced kettle. This type of kettle is found in supermarkets and budget superstores. It is a simple design with a simple shape/form. It is supplied in white only, in order to keep the cost of manufacturing low. It is relatively easy to manufacture, compared to more expensive kettles.

LIKELY CUSTOMERS:
Students on a low fixed income
Typical family or person on an average to low income.
People on a small budget,
People who are not too concerned about style / design.
People who are buying a kettle with one function in mind, that of boiling water.

  BASIC INFORMATION:
When people use a typical kettle, they tend to boil a full kettle of water, even for one cup of tea / coffee.
This is an Eco Kettle. It saves energy because it has two internal chambers. When the Eco Kettle is filled with water, only the main chamber fills. When the user wants to boil water, he/she presses a button that releases just the amount of water they need, for heating. A simple scale makes this process easy.
The kettle saves enough energy over the period of a year to pay for itself. It can be regarded as environmentally friendly.
This is a more complicated kettle than the budget kettle, due to the dual chamber. It is more difficult to manufacture.

LIKELY CUSTOMERS:
People who consider protecting the environment as important and like to show this through the products they purchase. It is a lifestyle statement.
The kettle is quite stylish in design and may attract customers who are prepared to pay a little more for a fashionable item.
